Toward Reducing Unproductive Container Moves: Predicting Service Requirements and Dwell Times

Two models over a container terminal’s operational data: which containers will request pre-clearance service, and how long each will dwell in the yard. Evaluated with temporal validation against the terminal’s operating rules; the paper estimates a reduction of 13 % to 23 % of total handling operations (Villalobos et al. 2026).
